How To Clean A Dyson Filter

Dyson is one of the most popular brands of vacuum cleaners around the world. In order to ensure your Dyson vacuum is always working efficiently, it’s a good idea to clean the filter(s) once a month. At VacuumSpot you can find a range of Dyson filters but we also want to help you understand how to maintain a clean filter.

This guide will take you through the steps you need to follow.

1. Identify the model of vacuum

First of all, you’ll need to ascertain the model of your Dyson vacuum cleaner in order to work out where the filter is located on the vacuum. Some Dyson models also have more than one filter inside them. For most Dyson vacuums, the filter is coloured purple so it can be easily recognised.

2. Turn off the vacuum

To ensure you are as safe as possible when removing the filter, make sure the vacuum is switched off and unplug the cord from the electrical outlet. If you own a cordless vacuum, just make sure that it is switched off before trying to remove the filter.

3. Remove the filter

Depending on the model of the Dyson vacuum, the filter may be located in different areas of the appliance. A quick Google search of your vacuum model should give you the information you need! Locate the filter and remove it carefully, being careful not to shake it around too much, which could dislodge dust, hair or any other particles that may be stuck in the filter.

4. Wash the filter

In order to clean the filter, simply run it under the cold water in the sink. Dyson recommends not using detergent or soap to clean the filter, partly because there are so many different types available and many will leave behind a residue on the filter which can clog it. It’s also not advised to put the filter in a dishwasher or washing machine, as this could destroy it.

5. Dry the filter

Drying the filter is the longest step, although it’s also the easiest. Leave your Dyson vacuum filter out to dry for around 24 hours, to ensure it dries thoroughly. Do not try to speed up the process by putting the filter in a clothes dryer or near an open flame, as this could lead to the destruction of the part.

6.Replace the filter

Once the filter has dried adequately, simply return it to the vacuum cleaner and snap it back into place. You should find that the clean filter will help the performance of your Dyson vacuum cleaner.

It’s a good idea to replace the filters in your Dyson vacuum once a year, or more regularly if you notice that they are starting to fall apart.
