How to change the Roller Brush Bearings on a Dyson DC04
The Dyson DC04 is getting on in age now but it is still a very good vacuum. If looked after properly it will continue for many more years. I was released over a decade ago but even if you bought it straight off the bat you could be using it right up to 2015 with a bit of maintenance. The video is titled How To Check The Dyson DC04 Roller Brush Bearings.
If your Dyson has worn brush roller bearings it will make the brush difficult to turn and may also cause the clutch to motor belt to stretch or it can cause the clutch to engage. The clutch engaging is a difficult sound to describe but it is a loud ratcheting sound.
The bearings on the brush roller are size 625 which we have in our store or they come as part of the brush roller assembly complete. The tool I use in the video is a belt lifting tool and whilst it is possible to do this repair without one but it is a LOT harder to do. You have to lift the belt up using a screwdriver so that the roller can be removed. Be careful of your knuckles as I have taken quite a bit of skin off before I found the handy tool.
I would also suggest that if your machine is at an age where you need to look at replacing the bearings then it would be really beneficial to change the filters also. The main thing that causes motor wear in a bagless vacuum cleaner is not getting enough air through the filters causing the motor to run too hot. A hot motor will bear our much faster than a motor with plenty of airflow.
