How To

  1. A Big THANKYOU to all our Awesome Customers.

VacuumSpot has been noticed by the people at Driving Business Online and as a result, they have invited yours truly to speak at a conference they are holding in Wagga Wagga. To cut a long story short, we have been recognised as a stand out online business in our region because of our rapid growth in sales along with massive increases in the size of our online range.  At this conference, we have been given the chance to inspire other businesses to take advantage of the way that the internet can transform their work. I am a big fan of the online business idea, so I am keen to spread the good news!

This is an overwhelming honour for me.  I must confess to being a little out of my comfort zone with a real live audience and a microphone, when my natural habitat is sitting in front of my computer amongst mountains of vacuum

  2. Electrolux Ultra Active ZUA3860P Review - A technicians perspective

Like most Electrolux machines the general build quality is very high and has obviously been well designed. I guess writing this from a technicians perspective means I am going to be commenting on the issues rather than the benefits. I have also done a review from a users perspective for more of the plusses.

Here is a link to the user review.

The first thing I notice with these machines is that if they need to be repaired then it is very likely that the machine will get marked they have a lot of concealed screws under the power and cord retract pedals and under the digital display. I am a really experienced repairer and still make minor marks where a screwdriver

  3. New Security Features For VacuumSpot

For the last couple of weeks we have had some issues with our server and whilst we were aware of the symptoms we did not know the cause. On the 20th May our server was hacked and as a result within minutes VacuumSpot was taken offline.

Because of earlier minor issues we had asked Nerdster, our server hosts to perform security checks and stabilise our website. For the earlier part of the year we had been using offshore developers to fix any issues or add in desired features. The initial reason was because of their 24hr support which I was thrilled with but we will be continuing to use their service because they were aware of the attack and pulled us offline before any serious damage could be done.

The unfortunate thing is that changes were made to the platform our software runs from and had to subsequently be restored to a point from a week old backup. This

  4. The Winners Guide to Miele Vacuum Bags

Miele are a thoughtful bunch of vacuum producing people.  Not only have they made their machines sturdy and reliable, they have gone a long way towards helping you overcome the quandry of not knowing which bags to use.  They only have five different vacuum bags in their range, so even if you went in blind, and picked those vacuum bags out of the proverbial barrel, you would still have a one in five chance at getting the right ones.  But then, if you were smart and took the blind fold off, the odds of you picking a vacuum bag winner would be even greater, because you would use your powers of visual identification to match up the picture of the bags you want with that last one that you already

  5. Miele GN HyClean Bags the "New and Improved" Miele Originals

Miele have been known for ages as makers of really good quality products.

Their paper vacuum bags were very good compared to the generic equivalent but what they are offering now is much better again.

These new Hyclean dustbags feel like a soft fabric but appear to be near indestructible. I have looked at many vacuum cleaners over the years with poor performance that is basically due to a split or ripped bag that allows dirt and debris to cover the primary filter and block it up. The new miele vacuum bags are very strong and will not break unless of course you intend to be sucking up razor blades I guess. Each vacuum bag uses patented technology and has nine filtration layers,

  6. Vacuum Movie Bloopers

Now I'm not sure if I am going to be able to convey the thrill that this project actually is, but I'll give it a red hot go.  We have so many enquiries about the ins and outs of all the vacuum goodies we stock, so we have decided to respond proactively with some low-budget, yet highly informative one minute videos that talk you through the stuff we sell.  Now I know it's not rocket science, but I also know that everyone wants to be confident they got the right product the first time.  These videos will help with that. Nilfisk vacuum bags are our starting point, and the videos are multiplying like rabbits.

  7. Nilfisk HDS2000 Vacuum Cleaner - Basic Repairs on the Cord and Latch

So today presents me a rare opportunity to do a couple of simple repairs on one and test out my new lighting. We have recently been improving our listings with adding more rich information and also adding Video wherever possible to make it super easy to see that the parts are looking at are correct for your vacuum. The slight drawback we have had is that our best lighting and space generally is in our warehouse in Melbourne and I do repairs (and computer work) from our NSW service centre in Wagga. Anyway to cut a long story short I got new lighting and also a Nilfisk HDS2000 in for repair about the same time so why not test out the lighting on the repairs I am thinking.

Well that in Typically Alec style was far too long winded but thanks to a heavy handed customer at an unnamed company I can now show you how to replace a latch and a power lead on a HDS2000. I have never actually needed

  8. How To Improve Suction Of Your Elelctrolux Twin Clean Vacuum Cleaner

Anyone who knows me, or even the casual viewer of my videos will know there are a few things that really “get my goat”. My primary one of these is “Red Tape”. So please please don’t get me started on anything to do with bureaucratic  nonsense making progress artificially harder. This is my spontaneous definition so no need to point me to the relevant Wiki definition. Another thing that really bothers me is sales people so rushed to get a vacuum (in this case the Electrolux Twin Clean) into a customer’s boot they forget to mention any simple maintenance that will prolong the life of aforementioned machine. I know they all come with a manual but seriously who reads those? Basically you could have a top of the line Electrolux performing poorly and all you need is a set of

  9. Those Movie Blooper Moments

We have been soldiering on with our highly sophisticated production of vacuum bag videos, and my efforts to honour the promise: “I will get better” has come with a price tag of blood, sweat and tears.  It’s not easy to smile and perform like the consummate professional that I am while standing in a dusty old shed under the searing heat of the spotlights, a heat that is multiplied by the tin roof above, and the warm bricks of the walls all around.  It’s something of a fine art to be able to create a stylish, classy and informative vacuum bag presentation when your first priority is to hide the fact that you are distracted by the bead of sweat trickling down your back.  This inconvenient biological reaction to excessive hotness, from my all-too-human body, causes crazy side effects.  Under these demanding conditions I find myself frequently repeating
